What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a procedure in which your dentist bonds tooth-coloured resin to your teeth in order to match the surrounding natural teeth.

Dental bonding is used most often in the repair of chipped or discoloured teeth. It is often also used to close the gap between teeth, to make teeth appear longer, or to alter their colour and shape to make them more symmetrical.

The Bonding Procedure

Dental bonding typically requires only one visit to your dentist's office and can usually be completed in 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.

In order to prepare your teeth for bonding, your dentist applies an etching solution to the surface of your tooth, and then a composite resin which matches the colour of your smile.

The composite resin is molded into its proper shape on your tooth and then hardened in place using a high-intensity light.

Benefits of Dental Bonding

If you are experiencing a minor cosmetic dental issue, including cracked, gapped or discoloured teeth, dental bonding may be able to help to address it.

After your dentist has finished the procedure, your teeth should look natural, especially if the tooth being filled is visible when you smile.

An added bonus is that the resin can also strengthen your teeth, so you can enjoy meals without having to worry about applying too much pressure on your tooth and breaking or cracking it again.
